The Brooklyn Nets used the number 10th pick in the 2008 NBA draft on Brook Lopez. That was back when the team was over the river and called the New Jersey Nets. Lopez averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds his rookie season for them. The next season Brook scoring increased to 18.8. Then 20.4 his third season. For the first three seasons of Brook Lopez career, the 7 footer never missed a game.
However in Lopez fourth season. He broke his foot and missed 32 regular seasons games. After returning he scored a career-best 38 points in a road win against the Dallas Mavericks. He then sprained his ankle in a win against Charlotte. Which resulted in the organization shutting him down for the rest of the season.
The team then moved from New Jersey to Brooklyn, Where Lopez averaged close to 20 points a game in 5 seasons for the Nets. He then became the franchise all-time leading scorer. Before the team’s GM Sean Marks decides to trade Lopez to the Los Angeles Lakers for an overpaid Timofey Mozgov and immature De Angelo Russell. Brook Lopez never asked for a trade !. He played for the team and gave them all he had weathered the Nets was good or bad. He stayed professional and really deserve more respect then what the Nets gave him.
After the trade to Los Angeles Lopez had one year left on his contract. Many Brooklyn Nets fans thought there was a chance the organization would bring Lopez back. However, that never happened as the Nets failed to even make an offer to him. Lopez eventually signed a one year deal worth 3 million dollars for the Milwaukee Bucks.
However, this would’ve been the perfect time for Brooklyn to make amends with Lopez and bring their all-time leading scorer home. They could’ve allowed him to finish his career as a Net. But the team dropped the ball !.
Instead of employing Lopez I guess Sean Marks rather just sit back and watch Brook Lopez destroy his team. The way he did last season.
