The Brooklyn Nets may not know how to make themselves a better baketball team, but they definitely know how to help other teams get better. Think I’m lying? just ask the Boston Celtics, Washington Wizards, or now the Los Angeles Lakers, as the Brooklyn Nets have just traded their all-time leading scorer Brook Lopez and the 27th pick to the Los Angeles Lakers for De Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov.
The Lakers were motivated to do this trade to get the often injured Timofey Mozgov’s 48 million dollars off their books. Brook Lopez is going into the last year of his contract, and the Lakers needed salary cap relieve to chase players like Paul George or Lebron James in 2018 free agency.
As for the Nets, I guess they were just motivated to not only prove to the world that they can be the worst team in the NBA for two straight season’s, but also to be the first team in NBA history to surrender the number 1 overall draft pick to the same team (two years in row).
The Nets had to swap draft picks with the Boston Celtics in 2017, which turned out to be the number one overall pick, and now they have to surrender their 2018 first-round pick to the Boston Celtics, because of the Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce trade.
