It only took 6 minutes and 45 seconds, for Gordon Hayward to sustain a horrific injury against the Cleveland Cavaliers. In what was supposed to be a great opener to the NBA season. The Celtics had to witness their newly acquired forward caught an injury. That will probably keep him out for the rest of the season.
It was the former Cleveland Cavalier point guard Kyrie Irving. Who attempted to throw an Alley Hoop to Gordon with Lebron James and Jae Crowder in the immediate proximity. Hayward collided with Lebron James and landed awkwardly. When he hit the floor, his ankle was completely twisted all the way around. After being carted to the locker room x -rays confirmed that the ankle was indeed broken.
Gordon Hayward had just signed a 4 year 128 million dollar deal with the Celtics. With him and the addition of Kyrie Irving, the Celtics were thought of as a team with a promising future. Now that Gordon is out. The C’s must find a way to move on and be successful without him. Which could be difficult since they gave up four of last season starters. (Isiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder and Amir Johnson).
However, the bright side of the story is that “the Celtics are in the east”, and with or without Gordon. The Celtics still have enough on their roster to complete. So there’s no need for Celtics fans to panic (not yet anyway).
Brad Stevens is a good coach and I’m confident that he’ll figure things out. They also have Kyrie Irving who’s one of the best guards in the league. So if I was a betting man. I would bet that the Celtics will be just fine. They should still be a top 4 team in the Eastern Conference. Despite having to deal with this tragic incident
