Sparks down Mercury to return to championship

Odyssey Sims led the Sparks with 22 points, Candice Parker added 21 points  11 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds. As Los Angeles beat the Phoenix Mercury 89-87 to advance back to the WNBA Championship.

With seconds on the game clock and the game tied 87-87. Candice Parker hit a driving game-winning layup. The win sends the Sparks back to the WNBA championship, to defend their title against the Lynx. The two faced each other last season in the championship, with the Sparks winning the series 3-2.

Los Angeles finished the regular season just one game behind Minnesota in the regular season. Which should make this year’s championship rematch epic.  The Lynx come in with Maya Moore, Seimone Augusta, and this year WNBA MVP Sylvia Fowles.  While the Lynx have  Candice Parker, Odyssey Sims, and Nneka  Ogwumike to deal with.

Diana Taurasi led the Phoenix Mercury with 22 points. While Brittany Griner and Camille Little both 18 points (apiece). Just making this far in the WNBA  playoffs, has to be an accomplishment for the Mercury. Considering the fact they finished the season, barely over  500 (18-16).

Game 1 of the WNBA finals opens up next Sunday (September 24) in Minnesota.
